the top 5 mistakes to avoid in your yearly planning

We make many mistakes when planning our years. These are the top 5

As I said in my last email, my system for yearly planning—Win Your Year—has evolved over the years.

We make many mistakes when planning our years.

These are the top 5:

#1 Not setting reasonable goals

"Shoot for the moon because even if you miss, you'll land among the stars", right?

Err… no.

Shoot for the moon and you might never leave Earth.

If your goal is so out of reach, why even try? Nobody likes to fail.

Don’t get me wrong, your goals should be bold. 100%.

But make sure they’re also realistic.

#2 Not focusing in on only a few goals

Look, I get it. We’d all love to achieve as many goals as possible.

Unfortunately, that’s not how focus works.

Focus on the most important. On the goals that are going to make the difference this year.

Would you rather achieve 100% of 3 goals next year or 10% of 10 goals?

Easy choice.

#3 Not having a clear and simple execution plan

Remember: a plan is just a piece of paper. Execution is the name of the game.

Every day/week/month (depending on your goal) you need to be making progress to reach your goal. A little bit more every time.

Like a loading bar.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Make it so easy to get started that you’d beat yourself if you didn’t.

That’s how you eat an elephant: a bite at a time.

#4 Not Tracking Progress

You’re going on a getaway for the weekend, a 5-6 hour drive until your destination.

So you start driving and a few hours later you wonder how you’re doing on time and distance.

What do you?

You look at the map. (or the GPS, I know)

It tells you where you are, and how far you are from your destination, both in miles and hours.

Simple, right?

Most people forget this step when setting goals.

They think it’s either 0 or 1: “I’ve achieved my goal” or “I have not achieved my goal!”

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Achieving a goal is both about the end result AND the destination.

Track your progress and you’ll enjoy the view.

Oh, and you’ll also know where you are at all times.

Nobody likes being lost.

#5 Not having a backup plan

Gyms notoriously amp up their sales programs come the beginning of the year.

Why?

Because they know, come February, most people go back to old habits.

But they’ve paid for the whole year. Best deal ever (for the gyms, that is)

Look, we all fail. That much is given.

But not having a backup plan when you fail?

That’s on you.

I’ve learned from my mistakes and used them to perfect the Win Your Year planning system.

You’re covered from these common pitfalls (and many others) by following my simple system.

I’ve helped hundreds of people achieve their goals.

I’d love to help you achieve yours.
