The 41 Minute Workday
Usually I work a few hours in the morning but today we were in a crunch:
My parents are in town for a doctor's appointment and I wanted to spend time with them.
But they could only get an appointment early in the morning.
Which meant I had to get things done fast.
I woke up at the usual time and hit the timer on my watch.
Wanted to see how long it would take me to actually get through the Fundamental Tasks:
These Tasks are the bedrock of everything I do.
If I complete these I can trust that the big levers are taken care of:
Working on systems. Frameworks. Insigh-based content. The works.
Once I'm done with those I can choose to either keep working or do something else.
Depends on the day.
Today I wanted to do something else.
I finished the work for the day and checked my watch.
41 minutes.
Everything was finished in 41 minutes:
Marketing.
Posts.
Servicing clients.
Done.
I can finish my work in 41 minutes not because I put more effort into my work.
But because I just have a work model that works for me.
I call it The Task Shell:
Unlike common Task Frameworks, The Task Shell doesn't focus on tasks.
It focuses on leverage.
You can increase your leverage by doing more of what’s working or stopping what’s not.
After we draw your Task Shell, I leave you to it.
This works best for most Elite Performers because they want me but don't need me.
They're clear on their game plan to excel at the highest level and I'm just there to fill in the gaps.
But every now and then someone is in an intense season and may need more help.
Or they may want to push further.
In those cases they can choose to get closer access to me.
Price shifts accordingly.
The Task Shell allows you to have the best of two worlds:
Lots of leverage in your work and lots of blank space in your calendar.
It's how I run a successful business in less than 3 hours per day.
It works for big teams with lots of people or with just you and very little software.
But when done right it allows you to multiply your productivity and impact.
And less than 3 hours a day (and in today's case, 41 minutes).
Not by focusing on tasks with a Task Framework.
But by focusing on leverage with a Task Shell.
Tasks ain’t leverage,
Dan
P.S.
We create your Task Shell 1-on-1 inside Elite Performers.
The goal is for you to end up with a simpler way to get your work done without working 60+ hours a week and then install systems to streamline the most important things you do.
(This leaves you with plenty of blank space on your calendar.)
Yours needs to be custom for it to work.
Which is why I can't work with that many people every month.
I'm opening 5 spots for this June intake and 2 of them are already taken.
I'll open officially tomorrow and close on June 2nd.
(Or then the remaining 3 spots are gone).
I've got some space in my calendar this upcoming week.
Hit reply and I'll get you the early invite.
Dan
