How to Stop Doing Half-Work
Do you have trouble balancing what is urgent and what is important in your life?
Most of us do.
While it may be tempting to let the important things slide in order to get the urgent tasks done, it is still vital to keep up with the important things, like exercise and eating good food.
The key to getting both done is time management.
It is easy to lose time and become distracted as we split our days between what we should be doing and what society bombards us with.
This is called half-work and here are 2 tips on how to deal with it:
#1 Block Out Time
Block out significant amounts of time to really focus on your work and eliminate everything else you have to do or think about.
It is just you and that task for that set amount of time.
For example, if you have to write a report, do not stop to chat with a friend or get a snack.
Block out a certain amount of time where you make sure to stay focused on your task.
#2 Eliminate All Distractions
This goes hand in hand with blocking out time.
While in your dedicated time slot of work, leave your phone in another room and shut down your social media alerts.
Tell your friends and colleagues that you are working for the next hour so they don’t bother you.
The complete elimination of distractions is the only way to get focused work done.
