How to Make Your Space Work for You
A clean desk is a productive desk, but a completely barren desk can be a discouraging space to work.
If you enjoy these emails, you can get access to all my productivity hacks (300+ hacks) here.
Here are some tips you can apply right now to bring some personal flair to your desk and make it a more welcoming environment for you to do work.
Bring Your Values to Your Space Start by adding your values to your workspace. You can do this with a post-it note, a printout, or a computer screen. This brings personality to your desk but also helps you be productive. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you can look to these values to ground you and help realign your decisions. Think of a few values you hold dear right now and write them down
Put Your Goals in Plain Sight Spend some time tonight thinking about where you want to be in life and make a vision board, or write down some medium-term goals. Bring them with you to work and post them around your desk. Your workspace should hold you accountable and inspire you. By having these visual reminders, you can work towards these goals
Display Feel-Good Photos Adding in a few nonwork elements can help remind you that there is more to life than work. For example, adding photos from a fun time can remind you of good moments, which can lead to a good mood that helps with a more positive outlook on life. This helps us with productivity because we feel good about ourselves and the work we are doing
Add Some Green Studies have proven that plants enhance how we feel and that they can help reduce stress, minimize anger, and contribute to well-being.
By adding all of these to your space, you can feel more at home in your workspace. This helps immediately, as it’s exciting to spice up your desk.
More importantly, it helps over the long term as you get comfortable in your space and can do better work.
