How to Create a Boundary Between Work And Non-Work
It’s easy to allow work to bleed into personal time, but it complicates your day, making work seem never-ending.
This is why it’s important to separate our days into work and non-work hours. The more clearly you establish a boundary, the simpler your day will be to manage.
#1 Break Your Day into Segments
Instead of thinking of a day as 24 hours, break it down into smaller, more manageable chunks.
You can break it down by the number of hours, or by spaces in between meals/breaks.
#2 Assign the Segments
Now that you have the segments, decide which ones will be ‘work’ and ‘not work’ and stick to them.
By dedicating a certain amount of time to work, you will be more aware of when you become distracted.
This is also true for non-work segments. If you’re hanging out with a friend, hang out with them only. Don’t check your email while you’re with them.
#3 It’s Not About the Time, It’s About the Intention
It doesn’t matter when these times are, just that you have a dedicated intention with them.
You can get work done at night, or take breaks during the day.
All that matters is that you stick with it.
You can start right now by sectioning out the rest of the day.
Or if you’re distracted at work and checking your email, close the tab and get back to being intentional with your work.
