Sending long emails almost guarantees that the recipient will put it in a “read later” folder, where it will be forgotten.
By writing a concise email, people will recognize your skill and appreciate your brevity, and you will be more likely to get a response.
Here’s how:
#1 A Short Email is Not a Rude One
While you are aiming for brevity, make sure you still have all of the pleasantries of an email, with a proper greeting and friendly tone.
#2 Think Before You Write
Figure out what you want to say and then say it in the least amount of words. This forces you to be concise and direct.
#3 Stick to One Topic Per Email
By condensing your content, you are more likely to get a response, as it is easier for your recipient to respond to one topic quickly.
If they have to pick apart a complicated email, it will take them longer.
#4 Don’t Be Afraid To Send Multiple Emails
If you have a couple of questions, send one email per question.
This allows you to have a more direct subject line, rather than a generic one.
#5 Use a Template
If you find yourself writing the same email over and over again, it is useful to save the text of that email and use it for future emails.
This way, you can simply edit the text you already have written, instead of writing a new email every time.
