5 Steps to Make Procrastination Impossible
An organized environment shapes a path to your goals and prevents accidental turns that lead to procrastination.
The core principle of a productive environment is increasing the friction required to slip into distracting activities so that it takes a significant effort to get distracted.
#1 Setting Safe Guards
It is important to reduce the temptation for distracting activities.
For example, use a separate web browser for leisure websites to get rid of autocomplete leading you off task.
#2 Condition Yourself
Use a separate device/location for your leisure time.
This allows you to associate different behaviors with different locations.
#3 Unsubscribe You can also remove unnecessary distractions to optimize your leisure time.
Unsubscribe from excessive emails, mute too-active posters, and set filters.
You can even take this to the next level and mute all non-critical notifications and delete social media apps.
#4 Planning
Split up big tasks into small ones so they’re easier to tackle, leave boring tasks for the evening, and adjust your task order before you go to sleep so the plan is already there in the morning.
#5 Blocks
You don’t have to schedule your day, but make sure you have consistent time blocks each day where you are productive.
Split this time with walks and chores as breaks.
