You can feel it start to happen – at first slowly, then all at once. You get a little bit tired and before you know it, you’re mindlessly scrolling your Facebook feed. You’re distracted and spent–you just can’t handle another minute of real work.
You’ve hit the mid-afternoon slump.
While our automatic reaction might be to reach for a bag of chips and watch a random YouTube clip, those behaviors will only prolong the slump.
Here are a few activities you can do to reset your body and mind to help you regain focus:
Have a Drink. I like drinking an ice-cold glass of water. Watch your brain instantly wake up ;)
Get Calm. Try meditating for 10 minutes. Or something else I do is to just sit down and stare around for 10 minutes
Declutter. Get everything in order at your desk, giving yourself a mindless break. It will make you feel better about your surroundings and productivity
Get Fresh Air. A simple 5-minute walk can do wonders. I live near a park and sometimes like to take a walk after lunch
Follow any of these tricks to win against the afternoon slump.
